Dryer Will Not Start
- Door not closed properly: Close the dryer door firmly until it latches. Check that clothing is not trapped in the door opening.
- Control Lock enabled: Disable Control Lock using the button combination listed on the control panel or in the model-specific manual.
- Delay Start selected: Check whether a delayed start option has been programmed before assuming the dryer is not operating.
- No electrical power: Check the outlet, plug, power cord, household breaker, and electrical supply.
- Gas supply issue: For gas dryers, confirm the gas shutoff valve is open and the gas supply is available.
Dryer Runs but Does Not Heat
- Electric dryer breaker issue: Most electric dryers require 240V power. Both sides of the double-pole breaker must be switched on.
- Gas valve closed: Confirm the gas supply valve is open and check whether other gas appliances are operating normally.
- Blocked exhaust vent: Restricted airflow can cause overheating protection to activate and reduce or stop heating.
- Incorrect cycle selected: Air Dry, cool-down, wrinkle care, or low-heat settings may not feel as hot as normal drying cycles.
- Heating component fault: A thermal fuse, heating element, thermostat, igniter, gas valve coil, or control board may require service.
Drying Takes Too Long
- Lint screen blocked: Clean the lint screen before every load and remove lint from the filter housing area.
- Vent duct restricted: Check the exhaust hose and outside vent flap for crushing, lint buildup, bird nests, snow, or debris.
- Load too large: Reduce load size and separate towels, bedding, jeans, and heavy fabrics from lightweight clothing.
- Moisture sensor dirty: Wipe the metal moisture sensor strips inside the drum with a soft cloth and mild cleaner.
- Cold laundry room: Dryers may take longer in cold garages, basements, or poorly ventilated laundry rooms.
Airflow, Venting & Lint Problems
- Weak airflow outside: Inspect the complete vent path from the dryer outlet to the exterior vent hood.
- Vent hose crushed: Straighten or replace crushed, overly long, or poorly routed flexible ducting.
- Outside vent flap not opening: Remove lint, debris, ice, nests, or damaged components preventing normal airflow.
- Dryer overheating: Stop using the dryer until the lint screen, vent hose, and exterior vent are cleaned.
- Lint around dryer: Clean the lint screen, rear vent connection, lower cabinet area, and household exhaust system regularly.
Common Kenmore Dryer Error Code Symptoms
- Door error: Close the door firmly and inspect the latch, strike, and switch area for lint or clothing obstruction.
- Temperature sensor error: Allow the dryer to cool, clean lint buildup, and inspect airflow before restarting.
- Power supply issue: Check the outlet voltage, power cord, breaker, and terminal block wiring.
- Motor or drum issue: Check for overloaded laundry, jammed drum movement, loose items, or belt-related problems.
- Control panel error: Disconnect power for several minutes and consult the model-specific manual if the message returns.
Steam & Sensor Dry Problems
- Steam cycle not working: Confirm the water supply hose is connected and select a compatible steam cycle.
- Wrinkles remain: Avoid overloading the drum and remove clothes promptly after the cycle ends.
- Sensor Dry ends too early: Clean the moisture sensor strips and avoid mixing very small and very large items in one load.
- Clothes still damp after cycle: Use a higher dryness level, reduce load size, and confirm vent airflow is not restricted.
Noise, Vibration & Maintenance Tips
- Thumping sound: Bulky laundry may create temporary thumping. Pause the dryer and redistribute the load if needed.
- Rattling: Check pockets for coins, keys, zippers, buttons, or loose objects.
- Vibration: Adjust all dryer feet so the appliance is level and installed on a firm floor.
- Musty odor: Clean the lint screen, drum, and exhaust system. Do not leave damp laundry inside after a cycle.
- Drum light not working: Check door closure, control settings, bulb condition where applicable, and the model-specific manual.
Safety note: Always disconnect electrical power before cleaning internal areas, checking the vent, replacing parts, or servicing the appliance. For gas dryers, also close the gas supply valve before service. Do not operate the dryer with a damaged power cord, blocked vent, or defective door switch.
